Terry Hutchinson’s Artemis Racing leads on Day 2 of Extreme Sailing Series Act 3
Swedish team Artemis Racing, skippered by Terry Hutchinson, have extended their lead with 116 points at the end of the second day of Extreme Sailing Series Act 3 at the Halic estuary in Istanbul.
The Swedish extreme sailing team, Artemis Racing, topped the contenders’ list on the first day with 52 points.
The conditions on the second day were alost the same as Day 1, with 7 to 10-knot winds making it quite challenging for the sailors to hold their own. Although the breeze didn't slow down, it was upto
the sailors to brave these conditions and face mother-nature's wrath.
Finishing third on Day 1, Switzerland’s Alinghi enjoyed a good run on Day 2 and earned second place. The Alinghi skipper, Tanguy Cariou, was happy with his team’s performance and appreciated their
efforts while Yann Guichard, who helms the yacht, was of the opinion that although Alinghi was improving every day, the margin of error was minimal.
Guichard explained to the media, "The first two events were very difficult for us as we are a new team. We need to get to know how to work together. We are improving every day, in every race so we
are happy till now, everything is coming together well. The game is really tight out there. It's fun, very fun but you you're not allowed to make one mistake."
Meanwhile, the Kiwi team Emirates Team New Zealand, skippered by Dean Barker, also bounced back terrifically and finished third with the addition of 52 points. They tumbled down to fourth place on
the first day with 45 points. Alinghi and Emirates Team New Zealand after Day 2, are tied for second place with 97 points.
The overall result at the end of Day 2 is as follows:
1 - Artemis Racing – 52, 64 = 116 points
2 - Alinghi – 47, 50 = 97 points
3 - Emirates Team New Zealand – 45, 52 = 97 points
4 - Luna Rossa – 51, 44 = 95 points
5 - Groupe Edmond de Rothschild – 44, 51 = 95 points
6 - The Wave, Muscat – 44, 43 = 87 points
7 - Red Bull Extreme Sailing – 34, 44 = 78 points
8 - Oman Air – 46, 30 = 76 points
9 - Team Extreme – 41, 23 = 64 points
10 - Niceforyou – 29, 35 = 64 points
