Terry Jenkins to miss McCoy Premier League of Darts
Ledbury darts player Terry Jenkins will not be taking part in this year’s McCoy Premier League of darts. The event, in which players like Andy Hamilton and Kevin Painter will make their debut, was unable to provide Jenkins a similar opportunity.
The eight-player Premier League event will begin from February 9 and will continue for 14 consecutive weeks.
It is also important to mention here that players victorious in this match will be able to qualify for the O2 event that is expected to go underway from the mid of May.
McCoy Premier League is a distinctive nature event in darts, as it allows darts players to compete in the form of teams.
The most dangerous pair in the League is of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis who will be competing against other pairs like that of Hamilton and Painter, James Wade and Gary Anderson.
Along with this, Aussie darts player Simon Whitlock will team up with Dutch player Raymond van Barneveld.
Although no reason for the non-participation has been provided by Jenkins, sources claim that his rejection has mainly been because of the performance slump that he experienced some time back.
The Bull was able to cruise into the quarter-final of the event at Ladbrokes, held this year, before losing to Lewis, 3-5.
According to pundits, a similar kind of objection can be raised regarding the participation of Hamilton in the event.
However, even in that context, it has been said by the PDC officials that the Hammer was able to perform exceptionally well at Ally Pally this year.
His performance against Lewis in the grand finale was an intense and nerve-wracking encounter.
In addition to this, it was never anticipated that Hamilton would be able to make it that far in the event. Hence, his performance was par excellence in the event.
On the other hand, Painter’s presence in the event and speculations about winning it were strengthened after he emerged as the champion of the Cash Converters event.
After such a commendable and highly appreciated performance, it was his right to be nominated as a member to compete against the elite of golf.
In comparison to these players, Jenkins, in the opinion of darts experts, fell short especially in terms of performance.
At present, the highest bets have been placed on the duo of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis. However, it is also being said that Painter and Hamilton, because of their competitive acquaintance with these players, can provide them with a tough time.
Hamilton is aware of Lewis’s strategy makeover, especially after their recent encounter at Ladbrokes, whereas Painter and Taylor share an old rivalry that they enjoy while playing against each other for a long time.
With the beginning of 2012, February is the month that will kick off the real excitement in the arena of darts.
