Tertutup Remaja Perlis 2011: Chee Wei Zhong dominates Wong Khai Jun to win Boys Singles U-17 title
Chee Wei Zhong, a spirited junior shuttler of Malaysia, has proved his worth at the home event as he has clinched Boy’s Singles Under-17 title after beating Wong Khai Jun in the final of the Tertutup Remaja Perlis 2011, on Friday, December 30, in Malaysia.
Chee Wei, who has been placed as top seed in the Boy’s Singles draw of the tournament, thrashed his lower ranked opponent, Wong Khai, who was the second seed in the championship. The young Chee Wei played superb badminton and finished the match in straight
games by displaying phenomenal performance for 25 minutes.
Wong Khai played well in both games and also matched the speed of the game but failed to maintain his control in the ending points and lost the match without taking even a single game.
Chee Wei played to his maximum potential and won the opening set with a decent score. In the second game he had to work hard in controlling the pace of the game and remained successful in winning the set with a close margin against the lower ranked opponent.
The match started in an entertaining fashion when both boys showed their spirit and played at their best speed. They remained on track and missed no chance to score points. Both employed powerful smashed followed by wonderful net killings.
The score remained tight until the ending phase of the first set when Chee Wei dominated the pace of the game and finished the set with a reasonable difference of 21-18.
In the following set of this final contest, Wong Khai started to play parallel badminton and kept his higher ranked rival away from the net. However, Chee Wei also played at the same speed and continued his positive play until the score entered into the
concluding stage of the second set.
Wong Khai failed to handle the pressure at this breath-taking stage of the game as his opponent became quicker in all areas of the court. Chee Wei scored the ending points with wonderful speed and finished the game by a close margin of 21-19.
The final score of this U-17 final showdown was 21-18 and 21-19.
