Tertutup Remaja Sabah 2012: Tan Jinn Ye ousts Affeadrey Atek in Boys Singles U-18 quarter-final
Malaysia’s Tan Jinn Ye has proved his elevated game as he has reached in the Boy’s Singles semi-final after beating Affeadrey Atek in the quarter-final contest of Tertutup Remaja Sabah 2012, in Malaysia, on Sunday, January 1.
Tan Jinn, who is ranked at the top position in the Boy’s Singles main draw of the event, had to struggle hard to overcome his un-seeded opponent at the top-8 stage. He took 40 minutes to beat Atek in a superb match that lasted for three games.
The higher ranked Tan Jinn worked really hard and took the first game with a tight score. However, it was a different story in the second game when he could not even put resistance and lost the set in a one-sided fashion. In the final game, the top seed
controlled the pace of the game and won it with a decent score.
The opening set was breath-taking when both boys showed their impressive skills. They played aggressive badminton and remained close until the one-minute break in the first half.
Both players progressed closely in the second half of the game and entered in the ending phase without taking a considerable lead. However, Tan Jinn managed to score the ending points and won the set with a tight score of 22-20.
In the second game, it was Atek who showed no respect to his higher ranked challenger throughout the game. He played killing badminton as he missed no chance to execute powerful smashes and net killings and remained far ahead of his rival.
Tan Jinn failed to play impressive game in this set and lost it without showing any resistance by a margin of 8-21.
In the third game, the top seed played positive game and also dominated the pace of the rallies. He did not execute risky strokes and remained positive by targeting the body of his opponent. His positive approach helped him in taking the final game with
a striking 21-14 score on the board.
This 40-minute quarter-final battle ended in the favour of Tan Jinn, who won it with a score of 22-20, 8-21 and 21-14.
In the semi-final contest, Tan Jinn will be up against Anthony Samin, who crushed Jessel Fung in the other top-8 contest.
