a) should i complain? they made me pay full price for something they would have reduced in the shop.. tho i guess its my fault for not adding a note saying choose use by date after 3 days or whatever.

b) should I freeze it or just use it? i was originally going to freeze hamburger i bought because now i have two packs hamburger, so was going to use one and freeze one and freeze the pork mince..

but if its use by tomorrow, should i just use by tomorrow? or would it be ok if i froze it for a while and then use it? thanks

  1. Why not cook it and freeze it? You could just freeze it raw but you would have to use it immedietly after defrosting.

I was sent 450g cottage cheese with pineapple from Asda today and it expires tomorrow. I phoned them up and complained and they apologised and said they would re- emburse me for it. They said it would be noted that I was not to get 'close use by' items in any future orders.

  2. If you want to use it by tomorrow, then its fine, just use it.  If not - freeze it...its still within its date, so it will be fine either way!

People are too picky about their dates...Im the same with meat - I want one with a use by date still far away, but as you say those past their date just get thrown away which is a waste!

  3. This is the reason I don't do online shopping, I always like to see what I'm getting  before I buy and take everything from the back where the use by date is the furthest away and no one else will have touched the products.  Also I've seen those personal shoppers going about.  They drop stuff on the floor and pick it up and still put it in the trolley.  You don't know what you're getting from delivered groceries and you're paying more for the privilege!

  4. they do not reduce the price til tonight if then!!

they can donate it to the local soup kitchen or where ever they use that sort of stuff in the immediate time frame. Because it would still be usable tomorrow.

You can freeze it and it will still be good on the day you defrost and for 3 days after.

I do wish people had some common sense on here about the sell by dates and use by dates on packages. It has nothing to do with the foods that get frozen when they are taken home or delivered to the home by the store. That puts the use by date off by at least 6 months or more.

  5. complain - they will refund you. I am always on the phone to them and i'm always getting refunds!

also, freeze it asap - it will last longer!

  6. It'll be fine to freeze it, theres nothing wrong with it, so no point complaining

  7. Just freeze it - it will be fine.

  8. u can complain but it not illegal as it was still in date so they broke no rules

  9. you have to complain, dont let them take the p**s!.threaten them with the papers or something

  10. Freezing it now and then de-frosting at a later date will be fine. Once you defrost it make sure you use it within 24 hours though, just to be on the safe side.

  11. however much of a pain in the *** it is to recieve summat like that. They are within their rights to do so as it would still be on the shelves today for customers to go instore and pick up. Had your shopping been delivered tomorrow it would have been an entirely different story!

Just freeze them and get on the fone and complain (tell them you havent got a freezer and its now inconvienced you as you will have to go out and get another packet for the meal you are cooking on Saturday for friends!) they will feel guilty as h**l and send you out vouchers for shopping usually around £10-20

  12. Once I got a few weeks old brownie mix and I did not want to take any chances so I went back to the store and they gave me one that was not expired. Go with complain.

  13. Freeze it for use when you want - one of the downfalls of online shopping I'm afraid.
