Test cricket is my priority, says Marlon Samuels – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804, the West Indies’ middle-order batsman, has expressed that he loves to play the shorter formats of the game but believes that Test cricket is the ultimate level of the sport, which can never be replaced by any other version.
The all-rounder from Jamaica has gone through some controversies in his career as he was banned from competitive sport for two years by the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) in 2008, amid his relations with the bookmakers.
Samuels returned to international cricket last year and has regained a permanent spot in the rosters for all three formats.
The right-handed batsman is currently playing the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and has been doing brilliantly on the tour. West Indies have lost both the Test matches played so far but the 31-year-old is the highest run-getter of the series as has scored
310 runs in two matches at an average of 103.33.
While talking to Dailymail, Samuels admitted that he has gone through a lot of ‘lows’ in his life but is happy with the fact that his career is back on track. The batsman expressed that he has turned all his miseries into his strength and
they are helping him perform consistently for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
He mentioned, “I always knew that my time to shine would come. I have always had a lot of fire burning inside but I’m managing that fire well at the moment. I’m going out there and transferring that fire on to the field and I’m very happy to be showing
what I can do.”
The all-rounder is of the opinion that no one can become a good cricketer without delivering the goods in the five-day format as it tests the real ability of a player.
“I like Twenty20. It’s fun. And I like the one-dayers. But Test cricket is the best cricket. And Test cricket shows the real quality of the batsman. When you look at the archives and look at the great players it is Test cricket they are remembered
for.”
Samuels is expected to bear the burden of Caribbean batting in the third Test as well, which is going to start on Thursday at Birmingham.
