Test failing what does this mean

I have been trying to reformat my laptop but have been unable to get some drivers to install. I have a dell and am running vista. I began running tests from diagnostics and everything passes until it gets to the SATA Disk. They all fail. Tell me I can recover this and I don't have to replace my harddrive. If I can recover this how. Please advise.
