    The question's wrong.  The fossils haven't been radiometrically dated.  Other material in the rock layers, such as volcanic ash, could have been.  Fossils can't generally be radiometrically dated.  Certain groups of fossils can be used as index fossils, but that has no direct connection with radiometric dating.  The person setting the question doesn't appear to understand the subject very well.
