Question:

Test ride locations for those without a motorcycling license...

I am in a tricky situation. I couldn't get a motorcycling class arranged until August 16th and I have already bought a 150cc motorcycle and DOT approved helmet.

---------------------

When I was practicing for my car drivers license (which I now have) I got a learners permit to practice with and practiced in empty parking lots...but apparently you can't get such a permit for motorcycles.

What I don't want to happen is to come into class and find out then that I'm "not learning quickly enough" on the road tests and must leave and/or fail due to test anxiety.

Is there any safe (and legal, of course) place to practice?

  1. The class is designed for people who have never ridden a motorcycle before. You will be fine. Don't be nervous.

  2. A smart biker would wait and squid would do what you have been doing

  3. The key to doing well in the class is throttle control and following directions.  You will do a lot of manuvers while going slowly.  If you master your throttle contol, you will do fine.

If you don't have a lot of confidence, try finding a person to give you a one on one lesson for a couple of hours.  I did it and it helped greatly before i re-took the class.  I went from worst to first.

    good luck and be safe.

  4. I wouldn't recommend practising in car lots. You've only got 16 days to wait, which will fly by! It'll give you time to prepare yourself a bit more, and maybe do some highway code studying.

As for the lessons, you're there to learn. If you're having trouble, then they'll go over it, or you'll be moved into a lower class. It may knock your self-esteem a bit, but you'll learn. Remember - YOU'RE paying them to teach you. They won't let you onto real roads if they think you'll crash.

I also wouldn't recommend practising in the public domain. The place where you have your lessons may be avaliable after the lessons to practise in, but dont risk getting caught by the law.

    Enjoy your biking =D

  5. If you are that worried about it, just wait until you get in the class.....you will be fine....its not that hard.

Chances are you will do something dumb if you find a place to practice before the class cause it sounds like you will be afraid of getting caught.  You need to be relaxed when learning my friend.
