I'm about to test for my private license. Any tips? My goal is to be an airline transport pilot.

1) After I receive my private license, what is next step on getting airline transport license?

2) What would be the fastest way to gain flight time?

  1. You have to be 23 years old and have 1500 hours total time to qualify for an Airline Transport Pilot certificate (ATP), so start building the hours!  Do an instrument rating add-on, then go for the Commercial, multi-engine class add-on, and just build time.  You can CFI like me, or see if you can fly banners, skydivers, scenic tours, etc.

  2. If you want to be a professional pilot, you must be personally involved in your professional development.  That means you will sit in on the bull sessions, read the books and magazines, talk things over with pilots and instructors that you meet at the airport.

When you are ready for your checkride, you will have developed the personal sense of where you fit in and what is going on in your career development, so that you will be prepared for the next step when the time comes.

    Good luck!

  3. read all the manuals krichners student pilot and many other learner magazies.. weight and balance is important what to look for preflight.. a air transport license requires three thousand hours total time.. get you r commercial next then instrument training is most importatn and multi engine.. and getting a job flying is tough.. see if you could do some riding as co pilot for a small company.. ok

  4. 1) get your multi engine

    2) just fly as often as you can

  5. The best thing you can do is find a good instructor. They will show you every thing you need to know to pass your checkride, and to be a good pilot(most important).

After you get your private next steps would be instrument rating, commercial certificate, Multi engine insturment commercial (one checkride). After that you have a few choices. What I did and the most common ways to built flight hours is to flight instruct. A few other ways are flying skydivers, ferrying aircraft, towing banners, and traffic watch for tv and radio stations. It's a lot of work but well worth it in the end.

    Happy flying

  6. You can't get a 'License'.  It's a 'Certificate'.  I have one...

Once you get your Private Certificate, get your Instrument Rating, Mulit Engine Rating, then go for your Commercial Certificate, and your CFI/CFII Certificate.

Become a flight instructor, and build hours instructing, usually with a flight school.  Then go for your Airline Trasnport Rating.
