Question:

Testing new phone line?

I just replaced an exterior phone line to my home that had been chewed through, but I do not have any phone service. Is there a way to test if the new wire works without having phone service at my home? (I installed it because at&t said it was necessary in conjunction with the naked dsl i am getting).

  1. If you have DSL on the line there should be no interruption whatsoever to the incoming service. Cutting into it or ' splicing ' it will affect the signal and needs to be tested properly by your service provider. It may seem a high cost but the only way to ensure a clean and quality signal is to let them do their job and once you have paid them any future problems will be covered.

  2. give me your phone number so I can test it

  3. If you matched everything color for color you should be ok. You need to be sure the splice you made is waterproof or you Willl have problems later. Since your service is not activated yet, it wil be difficult to test without knowledge  of phone cable and wiring.

  4. re splice it and buy Scotchlok. you can buy this at Lowe's or Home Depot. ask for the three wire splice. then take all the colors and match them up.

green to green, red to red, yellow to yellow, and black to black. is there is no black and yellow it would be just red and green. it cloud be blue/white, orange/white, green/white, and brown/white. it goes the same. blue to blue, orange to orange, green to green, and brown to brown. this is called a four pair or a two pair would be blue and orange. also buy some electrical tape.

when you are done tape it up real tight so water will not get in it. and what State are you in?

  5. Why did you install it? If you need the line in order to get service, but you need service now, why don't you have the phone or cable company replace it? They can tell you if everything is done correctly. If your DSL doesn't work, then it's probably still the phone line. What exactly did you do with the wire? Did you run it outside to a box?

  6. awww thats so sweet of esfahan...
