Question:

Tetanus shot cause a large lump in upper arm?

I just got a tetanus shot and the next day noticed a small painful lump on my inside of upper arm but not at the injection site. The lump has grown bigger throughout the day, is now probably the size of a large grape, and is very sore. It's soft and movable and the lump itself is painful but not the skin over it.. I think it could be a swollen lymph node if lymph nodes are there. Is this a normal reaction to a tetanus shot?? Drs office is closed the next 2 days so I'd love some input if anyone knows anything about this!! THANK YOU

  1. put ice on it to reduce the swelling. as for pain, take over the counter medication like advil.

  2. I had a small lump form when I had my tetanus shots renewed, but it wasn't as big as your describing, as far as I was told, it was normal to have small bumps form, and your arm will be sore after any type of injection/immunization. Try cool compresses, like an ice pack in a towel, never put it directly on your skin. If it gets unbearable, go to the emergency room. And call your doctor as soon as they are open, you might need to get it checked out.
