Tetiana Luzhanska crushes Ying-Ying Duan in 2nd
round – Beijing International Challenger 2011
Ukrainian tennis pro Tetiana Luzhanska crushed Chinese Ying-Ying Duan 7-6 (5), 6-1 on Thursday to book her place in the third round of 2011 Beijing International Challengers tournament here in Beijing, China.
Seeded fifth at the tournament, Luzhanska has been in decent form since the competition has started. He secured a comfortable victory in her previous match-up as well and now she looks to be a strong contender for lifting the title
at Beijing Tennis centre.
Looking for a place in third round, Luzhanska started off very confidently as she used hit and volley technique to surprise her opponent early in the opening set. Duan was also up for the challenge as she concentrated on her own
game play to create break opportunities.
Some highly competitive tennis was witnessed in the opener after both players broke each other twice to force the set into a tie-breaker. However being the more experienced of the two players¸ Luzhanska played the big points really
well under pressure and clinched the tie-breaker to take 1-0 lead in the set score.
Having put her Chinese rival under immense pressure, Luzhanska continued to play her natural game freely in the following set as well. She played fabulous baseline tennis as she hit the ball really hard. Breaking the serve twice
in the set, she raced to an impassable 5-1 lead. Holding on to her third service game of the set with ease, the Ukrainian completed her straight sets victory in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 36 minutes.
Duan failed to cope with the pace of her opponents fierce forehand and backhand winners. She made too many unforced errors in the match including four costly double faults and hence paid the price. The Chinese had her chances to
break her opponent but she could convert only a couple of them to let the challenger take control of things.
Luzhanska served brilliantly and hit an excellent 70 per cent first serve. Besides her attacking abilities, she had a formidable defence as well, which of course let her save crucial points against her. She will be hoping to maintain
her incredible form in her next match-up as well.
