Okay. I am planing to get neon tetras, I am wating till my betta gets better though (he has popeye getting better). I have a ten gallon tank with a waterfall filter with a aquarum plant. I want some advice. I hear that neon tetras nibble on bettas fins casuing damage. Is this true? If I get neon tetras what food should i get them, is it okay to feed them betta food? If not neon tetra then what?

P.S. I know some bettas are very vilont twords some fish but mine is mello, just thinks for himself.

  1. As long as your betta isn't aggressive, then buy a big group of the tetras (like 8 or more). When there are more of their own kind, they tend to cause less trouble. First of all, they are community fish, and they seek safety in numbers. Also, they will spend their time flitting about with eachother rather than picking on the betta. I've heard this from a lot of sources but I'll add a link too. Good luck. =)

  2. argh

Betta's DO NOT attack other fish, unless they resemble them

neon tetras will be fine with a betta as long as they're in a group of at least 6, which is the minimum for any of the schooling fish

they won't eat the betta pellets, but the betta WILL eat the flakes you would feed your tetras

  3. Well, every betta will be agressive to something he thinks is another male betta. So even if you have a mellow betta, he will still attack them! Plus, yes neons nibble fins. I say go for black skirt tetras or maybe some hatchet fish or a few african dwarf frogs.

  4. tetras are fine, my tetras are very calm
