Will tetracycline harm my biological filter?

  1. There are two types of Tetracycline.  One is for human use, (to cleanse the blood of Malaria), and the other is for use in fish tanks.  If you are using the correct one, there is no harm to the filter.


  2. yes, it will definitely nuke your bio filter.  Plan accordingly, and most of all, DO NOT believe anyone who says it is safe for the bio filter.  It's a broad spectrum anti-biotic, and kills most all types of bacteria - good and bad.

  3. Tetracycline, whether for human consumption or otherwise (it's all the same thing, just a different grade).  It is broad spectrum, but more effective against gram positive bacteria, including the Nitrosomonas and Nitrosococcus species that make up your biofilter.
