Teutenberg wins final stage as Vos takes overall lead in 2011 Giro D’ltalia Internazionale Femminile
HTC-Highroad team’s Ina Teutenberg showed her brilliant performance and took the final stage of 2011 Giro D’ltalia Internazionale Femminile in San Francesco al Campo on July 10. Marianne Vos took the overall leader’s jersey.
The 36-year-old Ina Teutenberg took a total of 22 minutes and 17 seconds to cover the distance of 16 kilometres time trial.
Recently, Teutenberg took the overall first place and took the second stage of Tour of Chongming Island. He also took the Tour of Chongming Island World Cup.
World Time Trial Champion, Emma Johansson, of Hitec Products-UCK was the runner-up with a difference of 10 seconds, while the race leader, Marianne Vos, tried her best to take a lead, but she failed and grabbed the third place with a difference of 15 seconds.
After finishing the stage, Vos said, “I still can’t believe I’ve won this jersey, A ten-day race is not easy to win. After winning two stages last year and wearing the pink jersey for two days, this race was one of my goals for the year.”
Judith Arndt (HTC Highroad Women), Ellen Van Dijk (HTC Highroad Women) and Emma Pooley (Garmin – Cervelo) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Emma Johansson attacked, but she failed and helped her HTC-Highroad team-mate, Ina, to cross the finish line first, ahead of other cyclists.
Elena Berlato (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) took the title of best young rider ahead of Lucinda Brand and Elisa Longo Borghini. Tatiana Guderzo (SC MCipollini Giordana) grabbed the title of best Italian rider ahead of Elena Berlato.
Marianne Vos took the overall lead with the timing of 25 hours, 42 minutes and 40 seconds.
Vos said, “When I’ve come here I’ve always left my mark, I won the white jersey last year, the ciclamino [points – ed] two years ago, and always won at least one stage. I’ve ridded three Giri, but this one was really spectacular.”
Emma Pooley was in the second spot with a difference of 3 minute and 16 seconds. Judith Arndt finished third with a difference of 8 minutes and 15 seconds.
