Texans' Matt Schaub back at practice to help out replacement, Matt Leinart – NFL News
Houston Texans' Matt Schaub was back at practice on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, to help his replacement, Matt Leinart, who will be at his starting position from next game this Sunday.
Schaub, however, was in protective boots to make sure he does not worsen his Lisfranc injury before his surgery which is scheduled for next Wednesday.
"Once I talked to everyone, there really wasn't an option out there, other than to get it fixed for the long term," Schaub said. "It's pretty positive as far as after the surgery, getting the rehab done and being able to come back,
play and be fine."
Texans coach Gary Kubiak backed Schaub to be on the field helping out his replacement. He said the player will also be travelling with them for Jacksonville Jaguars game this weekend.
"He needs to stay very much involved," Kubiak said. "I think there's a way he can help this team, so we're going to give him a chance to do that. It's just tough to see him standing back there."
The coach, however, was not sure whether Schaub would be able to be on the field after his surgery and how much would he be able to help Matt Leinart.
Schaub said that it would have long recovery time after his surgery. A minimum amount time he is expected to spend on recovery is estimated from six to eight weeks. It will be almost end of current football season.
The player said that doctors have assured him that his injury was not career threatening and that he was unlikely to inflict same injury again once he was back to his game, most likely next year. He has already been ruled out for
current regular season of National Football League (NFL), American football's premier league.
Schaub has been placed on injured reserve list by the Texans after he was ruled out by the doctors for his chances to play in current season game. He had sustained the injury in Texan's game against Tampa Bay on November 13 and
played a single game or taken part in practice since.
