Texans aim to lift AFC south title with win over Bengals on Sunday – NFL Preview Week 14
The Houston Texans are playing one of their crucial ties against the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati this Sunday hoping to stage a win and lift American Football Conference (AFC) south title.
Out of their 12 games that the Texans have played this season they won nine and lost three. The wins include five home and four road victories. They lost one home and two road games.
No other side has been going through so many injuries problems as the Texans are; they into National Football League (NFL) week 14, are without their main quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart and wide receiver Andre Johnson
while starting with their fifth round pick quarterback T.J. Yates. They have still managed to remain intact together to register six straight wins, which is a franchise record.
The Texans have tried six players at quarterback position in past few games since their star quarterback Matt Schaub has been ruled out of current regular NFL season due to a foot injury.
He was followed by Matt Leinart. The Texans since then have signed two veterans Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia to be their quarterback no. 2 and 3 respectively. They also waived Kellen Clemens a week after they had signed him.
Young T.J.Yates who had been given the starting role at quarterback position was backed again by the coach and senior players to be Texans quarter no. 1 in their match against the Cincinnati Bengals.
"Just his play, in particular, was encouraging," Kubiak said Monday. "He can get a lot better, and there are so many things he'll learn from throughout the course of the game, and watching himself on tape, play that many plays."
The rookie has good backup in presence of Delhomme and Garcia and he is expected to learn and grow mature at the position.
The game is very important for the Texans as in case of a win they stands winning the AFC south title at 10-3 in the league's current positions.
The Cincinnati Bengals who were very much in the race for playoffs until last week will be looking for a win and further consolidating their score from 7-5 to 8-5 in AFC north. Their loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers on past
Sunday has forced the Bengals out of playoffs race.
They are still might be hoping for a wild card chance if they managed to break out of the group of teams which are 7-5 on the points table. The key to Bengals victory will be their rookie quarterback Andy Dalton.
The Bengals have won three home and four road games while lost two home and three road games. This included their two losses against the Pittsburgh Steelers and one against Baltimore Ravens.
