Texans defensive coach Wade Phillips back from medical leave to join practice squad – NFL News
The Houston Texans the side that has been buried under the reports of injuries to a number of its players finally have a good one that their defensive assistant coach Wade Phillips has recovered from a surgery on his kidney and gallbladder.
Phillips who went on a medical leave on December 14 this year due to a kidney problem is expected to officially join his side in their next and final game of this regular season of the National Football League (NFL).
The coach showed up at the Texans practice squad on Wednesday apparently being healthy and fit. "I'm starting to feel better and better," Phillips said. "I'll feel good, and then all of a sudden, my energy level does go down a little bit. But that'll get
better as it goes."
His side said that they were happy to have him back. "It's good to be back," Phillips said. "It's not as funny now as it was before I was going in. I'm a little more sore than I thought I'd be. It's taken a lot out of me, but I'm working my way back, doing
what the doctors say."
Texans linebacker coach Reggie Harring had taken over the defensive coaching duties in the Phillips’ absence for last two games. It is to note that the Houston Texans have lost both the games.
Wade Phillips return also sent a sense of relief among the Texans players. They said that they were excited to see him rejoining them earlier at the team meeting and later in the practice session.
"Even just seeing him out there and smiling and making calls," linebacker Brian Cushing said, "I know that means a lot for him, as well. To be away from football like that, it really hurt him. For him to be back out there, all of us are just happier to see
him out there."
Despite being welcomed enthusiastically by his side, the absence of Wade Phillips has not affected the Texans much given the fact that they have already made it to playoff, their first entry to the second round of the NFL in their franchise history.
They have also won the American Football Conference (AFC) south title with the clear score of 10-5 with one more game to play to end this season.
The return of the defensive co-ordinator will be a good boost for the side that is playing its playoff and would like to no worries on hand before going into it.
