Texas,why are grand houses so cheap?

i seen a 5 bedroom,3 bath for 82,000 why so cheap? i've seen a few others that were really nice. and that cheap too.desoto,dallas,houston. my husband is a pipefitter and most of those type of jobs say pipefitter/welder....he's not a welder..idk what to do...help[

for one that cheap, it's over 20-30 yrs old, needs lots of work or could be in foreclosure. Otherwise, all the other reasons listed probably apply.

For that price you aren't getting much.

My wife and I are house hunting right now, and if you're seeing that large a house for that little money, it is either 1) in a high crime area, or, 2) so far away from any kind of service that you make up the difference in gasoline and wear and tear.

I love Houston, but one of the problems with our lack of zoning is that you get these pockets of crappy neighborhoods abutting good areas. Most of this comes from cheap apartment overbuilding in the late 70s.

Also: "grand houses?" What exactly do you mean? Large? A McMansion (which certainly doesn't sell for $82k)?

Five bedroom, 2-1/2 bath, between $80 and $85k, but it is a bank-owned home that is in horrible shape inside. Also, the neighborhood (Mission Bend) was nice... in 1980. I'd never live there because I like my safety.

You can't even buy a one bedroom condo in my neighborhood for $82,000.

At $82,000 I question where that house is located. No way that it in a good neighborhood unless it is in BFE. It is cheaper here but that is suspicious.

A house like that for $82,000? Sounds suspicious to me. It's got to be a handyman special, in the hood, a thousand miles from civilization or just a clear cut case of the old bait and switch.

Like the other posters said, it must be a dump, located in a bad neighborhood or in the middle of nowhere. I have not seen 3 bedrooms for under $130k. The average home price is around $200k

cause baby girl, we the south. its ALL cheap down here.

im sorry but i dont really have a reason why its like that.

but living expenses, are very cheap. & stay that way.
