I am a really good poker player but I am not very good at managing how to budget my money and I am going to up and down swings because of it. If anyone knows anything about money management please give me some advice?

  1. It all depends on your bankroll, but a good rule of thumb for ring games is to never put in play more than 10% of your total bankroll.

So if you have a bankroll of $1000, you should only buy in at games for $100. If you lose half of that, then get up and try again sometime.

Tournaments are a little different, use 5% as a guide for the tourney fees.

Here is a link to some free strategy that may also help you out in Texas Holdem.

  2. What buy-ins do you prefer and ring or tournaments?

A lot of people go by a 1% rule of thumb.

You could also do 6% ring // 3% Tourney if you can't stand that, or do 4% Ring 2% Tourney, but doing 10% is definitely too much for a normal basis, keep this to special tournaments, and don't have that special tournament be daily.

Only play when you are fully alert and aren't emotional at all

If you're emotional, even if still in a tourney, sit out, go get a drink(non-alcoholic) and get a breath.

Don't be afraid to try playing the lower buy-in tournaments, they can be easier, and more able for a system, so you can run 10-20 of them at once when you get it down even.

Just let me know if you need any more information.

  3. Okay, nobody's a good player. It all comes with the cards. I'm 13 and I got my mom out in about 10 hands and my brother in 11. You should figure out how much your going to spend. Then, win all of that back. After you figure out how much money your going to spend that day of playing txes hold 'em then only spend that much. If you win more money then you can keep playing, but don't go over the ammount that you set yourself up to have. lol. You're obviously over 21 and I know more about budgeting. And I'm alomost half your age! And I can beat you in Texas Hold'em, five card draw, and blackjack! I rock at poker! I can go 8 hours on one game!!!!
