Texas Longhorn’s trio declares for the 2011 National Basketball Association Draft - NBA Draft Update
The fortunes of Texas turned around when the freshmen Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph and Sophomore Jordan Hamilton all declared that they are going to into the 2011 National Basketball Association Draft.
Subsequent to the three Kentucky Wildcats players announcement, in which they stated that they are going into the 2011 NBA Draft, now is the turn of the Texas Longhorn’s trio.
This decision is going to affect the Longhorns in the next season, as they will lose the best players of their team. Hamilton and Thompson are the top scorers and rebounders in the Texas line-up and with the graduation of Gary Johnson, the team will lose
four of their five elite scorers. Without these players Texas, who were considered among the top five teams of the college basketball, will lose their charm.
However, out of these three only Hamilton is surely going, as he has signed with an agent. While, the other two have not signed with any agent and have kept their options open so they can return to school in the summer, in case they change their mind.
Texas’ talented guard Hamilton said, "My family and I really took our time with this decision and waited to get a good feel of what this year's draft class would look like and where I can be drafted. With all the information we received, it is best for me
to move forward now and pursue this opportunity."
On other hand, Joseph is following the conventional methods to test the Draft waters and Thompson is still collecting information. The two have until May 8 to take their names out of the Draft.
The 13th ranked Thompson said, "I will continue to gather all the information about my draft status and use that information over the next two weeks to determine whether or not to keep my name in the draft."
Hamilton who was ranked 17th among the top 100 Draft prospects and Thompson, have completely gone against their month before vows, in which these two said that they would be returning.
When these sorts of announcements are made in the heat of the moment during the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, they are often considered dubious. Derrick Rose, Greg Oden and Michael Beasley, also once claimed that they would return
after ending their freshmen seasons, but they did not.
However, in this case Hamilton and Thompson have changed their decisions because of circumstances. As the NBA Draft is more like a game of dominoes in which judgments of a handful directly bangs into the options of others.
Both Hamilton and Thompson turnaround from their vows because North Carolina's Harrison Barnes, Baylor's Perry Jones and Ohio State's Jared Sullinger have decided to stay in college.
This provided a lot of room at the top of the draft for almost everyone and a player like Thompson has more chances to make it up there, especially when these players are not going into the Draft.
