Texas Manager Ron Washington preps up squad; fails to avail results
For two clubs that had high stakes in Game 7 of the World Series, there was always going to be a tension developing on both sides of the camp. The Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals had a lot to play for on Friday, October 28 at the Busch Stadium
in St. Louis. Coming out from a 10 – 9 defeat in Game 6, things were always going to be tough for the travelling visitors.
Texas Manager Ron Washington wanted to boost his team up but that made little difference in the end as the Cards picked the title up at the end of Game 7 with a 6 – 2 score line victory.
"It's not rah-rah, it's just matter-of-fact," Washington said. "This is what we've played for all year, and the prize is within our reach. We've bounced back from tough defeats before. Last night was tough, and we'll bounce back. We'll still have fun and
play our game."
Ron Washington held a small prep talk with his players and the aim was simple: to motivate his squad before the final encounter ensued. Unfortunately, the match never went the way the team wanted it to go. After staying level through the first inning, the
Rangers pitching rotation lost all the momentum to concede four costly runs to the Cards.
Prior to Game 7, the Rangers put up an amazing fight in Game 6. They went ahead on five occasions and were struck back on each opportunity as the Cards managed a clear save. The victory was not meant to go the Rangers way.
"Last night was very exciting, a lot of highs and lows," Washington said. "People got to see two champions going after it. We didn't quit, they didn't quit, they just got the final blow."
The Rangers end their second straight World Series appearance with a disappointing show. Being given a chance to do something twice in the major league baseball circuit is very improbable. The Club fought hard but the effort was never going to make a difference.
The team will now face a new challenge as the offseason looms over. They need to retain players and they will also look to add new faces to the club as the 2012 season approaches.
