Texas Manager Ron Washington sums up club pitching in Game 6
The Texas Rangers may not be the World Series Champions on Thursday, October 27, following Game 6 but they will be heading to Game 7 to pick up the accolade that had eluded them last year. The club is tied 3 – 3 in the tournament against the St. Louis Cardinals
and they will be playing their last encounter at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Friday. Ron Washington talked to the press, after the game as the club lost the match 10 – 9.
The Rangers put up a great show as most hitters combined to put the club five times ahead. However the Cards were just on the mark to fight back. They rounded up 10 runs in five comebacks. David Freese ended the game in the 11th inning when he
smashed a walk off homer against Texas hurler Mark Lowe.
The opportunities dwindled for the Rangers in the pitching rotation and it proved to be the ultimate failure of the game as the Cards closed the encounter with a stunning blast. Colby Lewis pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs. The Rangers had a chance
to close the game on 9 – 7 but they fumbled the ninth inning as closer Neftali Feliz allowed two runs off two hits.
"[Lewis] was throwing the ball extremely well. We had the lead and he was throwing the ball well, so I went with Colby," Washington said. "He went out the next inning and got us through it.
"We went into the ninth inning with a 7-5 lead with our closer [Neftali Feliz] out there. So you always want to put runs on the board, but you've got to realize the other team got pitchers out there executing pitches, too, and getting hitters out. But you
know, right there, I felt good."
The Rangers needed one more out in the tenth inning to close the game on 9 – 8 but the Cards pulled off an equalizer again as Lancer Berkman led Jon Jay home for a game saving single. Washington had used his hurlers a lot by that time as he put on Mark Lowe
to throw in the 11th inning.
