Texas Pitching Coach Mike Maddux sums up Colby Lewis’ performance during Game 2
Colby Lewis may have been the inconsistent performer in the 2011 season but his pitching ability always picks up during the postseason campaign. As the Texas Rangers picked up a crucial Game 2 win on Thursday, October 20, in the World Series over the St.
Louis Cardinals at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the club’s pitching coach Mike Maddux had a few words to say about the player.
Lewis pitched 6.2 innings for the Rangers in the encounter, picking up a run from four hits. The hurler had the highest concession rate of home runs in the regular season but he is more than stable in his post season outings for the Rangers. Maddux talked
about the ball thrower, during the encounter and he clearly praised the player.
"So far, he's got four pitches for strikes working; he's mixing a lot up and down," Maddux said. "So he's doing everything he can to keep them off balance, and that's what he does when he's at his best.
"He's got a lot of courage out there. Here's a guy who couldn't pass most physicals, and he goes out there and gives us 200 innings over the course of the year and he's been a big-game pitcher in the postseason. You just can't measure how big his heart is
and how big his courage is when he goes out there."
Lewis did not pick up the win for the encounter but he did however manage to lower his earning runs average in the current postseason to 2.95 from three starts. He is 1 – 1 so far and there is reason to believe he will play a major role in Game 6, if the
World Series is stretched to that extent. The hurler has been an inspirational figure in the regular season as well.
He was 14 – 10 during the season, conceding 35 homers, 103 runs and striking out 169 hitters. His earning runs average during the regular season campaign was 4.40. He will now be hoping his fellow pitching colleagues can get the job done at the Rangers Ballpark
in Arlington.
