Texas Rangers’ Adrian Beltre wins Gold Glove Award – MLB News
While his team might have failed to win the World Series title, the 32-year-old Adrian Beltre continues to bring more glory for the club. This year, the player won both the American League Silver Slugger Award and the Gold Glove Award.
This is not for the first that the proud player of the Texas Rangers has done it. It is for the third time in his career that he has won this distinction, winning both the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award in the American League.
But the Gold Glove announcement this year was a moment of pride for him. Considering it a big accomplishment, Beltre stated he is proud of his defence considering the fact that this is a position that has never remained easy for anyone playing in the professional
circuit, especially the Major League.
"It means a lot," Beltre said after the Gold Glove announcement. "Obviously I'm proud of my defense. It's part of my game that I take pride in. To be chosen as one of the best in the league is quite an accomplishment. Defense is not easy, and there is a
lot of competition out there."
Playing third base has remained a tough challenge for many of the players in baseball. The fact can be adjudged in that no player this year could have more than 147 appearances at third base owing to a lot of reasons, being consigned to the disabled-list
being the main one.
This was why only four of the players in Major League Baseball had 130 games at this position. It is this reason that made the Hall of Fame second baseman Johnny Evers in 1911 to say, "Playing the third base is pretty much of a gamble. If the ball happens
to be hit right at you, then you get it. Otherwise there is nothing doing.”
Beltre had his appearance in 124 games this year, having scored 82 runs with 32 home-runs to his credit, maintaining an average of .296 for the team. He also had 105 RBIs and .892 OPS with .561 SLG.
