Texas Rangers’ Brandon Webb not content with ball control in Bullpen Session – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ Brandon Webb may have been the 2006 Cy Young award winning pitcher in the National League, but his move back to being a Major League Baseball starter is far from complete. The veteran who was side-lined in 2009 following a shoulder injury
is trying to make it back to the big cheese, but progress has been slow, as Webb recently expressed his discontent on his command in a bullpen session in Arlington.
The veteran has completely rehabilitated from a Tommy John surgery, but his absence from the game for over a year has seen him lose velocity and control on the field. That is something the Texas Rangers are working on and it appears there will be progress
in the coming weeks, as May has been the suggested time-line for a return.
Nevertheless, his latest display in the session will invoke a set-back, as he told the press that it went really bad. He told the reporters that it was ‘wild’ and though he was eyeing a sooner return, those expectations were shunned immediately.
Webb explained that his last session had gone well. He was expecting this one to go at the same pace as he was eyeing a simulated game feature. Unfortunately, those wishful thoughts will have to be entertained later as Webb will be going back to basics again.
"We'll have to do that again. It's a little different when the hitters are in there, I guess. My last 'pen was pretty good and I thought we were heading in the right direction. I hadn't thrown to hitters in about two weeks. But if it's like today, I might
be able to do that in Arizona, but if I would have come out like today in a live game in Frisco, I would have walked like five guys. It doesn't shake my confidence. I thought it was going to be better than that for sure. Hopefully next time will be a little
bit better."
With less than a month left, Webb will be hoping for some serious improvement when he dawns the Major League circuit.
