Texas Rangers’ C.J. Wilson to visit Miami Marlins – MLB Update
The Miami Marlins have already come into the limelight this offseason and with the news of C.J. Wilson coming to the ballclub for a visit has increased speculation that the owners might be willing to increase their payroll above the 100-million-dollar mark.
Texas Rangers’ ace and a key component of the rotation, Wilson is expected to visit the Marlins after Thanksgiving, a time when the Marlins are known to make big trades. This offseason, it seems as if the management is throwing the rod to every possible
player on the free agent list, be it Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes and now Wilson.
It was learnt that the Marlins met with Wilson’s agent during the general manager meetings in Milwaukee this past week and the visit is in the aftermath of the meeting. It is vital to note that the Marlins failed miserably during the recently concluded season,
finishing last in their division and succumbing against all major teams on the circuit. Nevertheless, a change is strategy might bring about a change in luck for the franchise.
The Marlins have literally changed everything from what they had during their Florida tenure, their uniform, ballpark and even their name. Now, they are looking to bring radical changes to the roster and with financial backing, this does not seem to be an
issue for the newly cash-rich Marlins.
Prior to this development, the Marlins have already extended an offer to Reyes and Pujols, which is expected to be quite high, given the fact that it was preliminary in nature. It is believed that the Marlins gave Reyes a six-year 90-million-dollar offer
and a nine-year 225-million-dollar offer to Pujols. Although both figures are said to be inflated, the exact figure will be somewhat close to these numbers.
The New York Mets have still not extended any offer to their home-grown All-Star player and it is expected that no offer will come before January. As for Pujols, he has already denied a similar offer from the St. Louis Cardinals and is looking for a change
of alliance. The Marlins are not a bad choice, especially with new manager Ozzie Guillen in charge.
