Texas Rangers’ Colby Lewis all-set to outpitch St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 – MLB Update
With the Texas Rangers just one win away from bagging their first ever World Series crown, starter Colby Lewis believes that a delay due to inclement weather will not deter his preparations Game 6 of the Fall Classic and that the only hurdle he now faces
is to keep this attitude together for at least the next 24 hours.
The Rangers are currently leading 3-2 in the seven-game series, largely because of a tactical error by St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa during Game 5, which caused a mix-up in the bull-pen and subsequently resulted in a loss for the Redbirds.
Nevertheless, the series now returns to Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri for the last two games with Game 7 to be played only if the Cardinals manage to prevail in Game 6, which is now scheduled for Thursday, October 27.
With a delayed start for Lewis, statistics do not support the proposition that the starter will be successful in keeping the home-team at bay. During the regular season, with at least six days of rest, Lewis leaked runs at a 5.00 ERA and managed maintain
a decent win-loss record of 4-2. However, the scenario is now different. The Rangers are within reach of their first crown at the Majors and Lewis will not want to be the pitcher who loses it for the team from here.
Rangers’ catcher and postseason star Mike Napoli, nonetheless, has full confidence in the starter and believes that Lewis has the ability and confidence to win it for Texas. In seven career postseason starts, Lewis sports a 4-1 record with a 2.22 ERA which,
by any measure, is sparkling.
"We have all the confidence in the world in Colby," Napoli said. "I look for him to go out and do what he does. We like playing defence behind him. He works quickly. He attacks the strike zone and he's confident. We expect great things out of him."
Napoli, who is responsible for calling the game from behind the home plate, asserts that Lewis does not bring emotions into play and this is where he succeeds.
Lewis got words of motivation by manager Ron Washington and team President Nolan Ryan as well. Both believe that the pitcher gets more focused during the postseason and never gets away from what he does best.
