Texas Rangers’ Colby Lewis reflects on his performance against the Oakland Athletics
Texas Rangers’ regular starter, Colby Lewis was recently available to comment on the 3-4 loss against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, September 22 at Oakland Coliseum. The pitcher went up against a challenging club that looked strong and ready to make
their stand against the American League West leaders.
Much to the hurler’s appreciation, he did not pick up a loss as Darren Oliver was the one to take the fall as the A’s beat the Rangers. Lewis faced Trevor Cahill from Oakland’s pitching rotation and he did his job well, pitching 6.1 innings before Oliver
replaced him on the mound.
The Texans were gaining ground in the game before second baseman Jemile Weeks put his first home-run of the season on the scoreboard against Lewis in the sixth. The hurler is currently on 35 homers and he is dubbed the American League’s leading conceder
in home-runs, this season. The player also picked up the third run of the A’s as David DeJesus ran home in the seventh to equalise the game.
"If I'm leading the AL in home runs then it might as well be me who gives up his first Major League home run," Lewis said.
Texas’ pitcher went for three runs off four hits and two walks. He struck the A’s out on seven different occasions. His current earned runs average fell to 4.45 and he picked up an undecided game.
"I felt like I threw the ball well today," Lewis said. "I was able to go deep in the game and I threw all my pitches for strikes. I was frustrated at myself for walking DeJesus. I fared well against him this year."
The Rangers are hoping Lewis can deliver in the playoffs if the club qualifies in the coming series at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington against the Seattle Mariners. Lewis is currently 13-10 and he has a chance to go to 14 wins against the Los Angeles Angels
in the last series.
