Texas Rangers’ Colby Lewis stuns White Sox with first career shutout
Colby Lewis’ splendid pitching spell brought an emphatic 4-0 victory to Texas Rangers against Chicago White Sox. Lewis’ last four appearances have been magnificent, resulting in straight outings. He gave up five hits in his effort to bag this shutout.
Similarly, Rangers’ offence seemed to be significantly dependent on the Endy Chavez’s solo performance. Chavez had his career’s first three hits to provide a solid foundation for his team’s victory, a big achievement considering Chavez being on the disabled
list due to a serious knee injury he had since the last two seasons.
Scheduled to be played on 16th May, Monday’s game was witnessed by 23,048 fans at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago. The home team thronged the ground with the hope that their team would display an amazing performance but that hope did not materialize,
and the Rangers cruised past White Sox, 4-0.
In the first four innings pitched by Lewis, he only allowed a second inning walk to Paul Konerko.
Lewis then unleashed his effective weapon with magical speed, striking out four of Chicago’s hitters in the fourth inning.
Other than Lewis, Minnesota Twins’ Francisco Liriano has thrown this season’s first shutout game here on 3rd May.
The first hit that came against Lewis was by A. J. Pierzynski. Lewis’ successfully unhittable bid came to an end but he did not allow Pierzynski to score a run.
Chavez, on the other hand, had a good day with the bat. He commenced the game with a double, earning the first hit in 10th at-bat.
The last time Chavez shone was on June 19, 2009, when he had a big league, being part of Seattle Mariners. Chavez was also scored the game’s first run on Michael Young’s two-out double.
Young, on the other hand, has a leading streak to his credit. Young has a 16-game hitting streak which in itself is a big achievement partly because it is the longest this season.
Michael Young, Adrian Beltre scored 1 run each, while Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the 6th inning to put Rangers on the path of winning ways.
Lewis’ shutout game enabled Rangers to win the game by 4-0 against Chicago White Sox.
