Texas Rangers’ GM Jon Daniels lays praise on Manager Ron Washington – MLB Playoffs
Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington may have been the unsung hero of the American League Division Series but general manager Jon Daniels did not shy away from calling the skipper’s work, ‘tremendous’ when he addressed the press on Wednesday, October 5,
from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The top management representative pointed out Mike Adams rotational presence as a sign of Washington’s ability to rally the squad.
"Tremendous. Tremendous," Daniels said. "One small move that I thought spoke volumes: Mike Adams had a rough outing in Game 3, and Wash went right back to him in Game 4. That not only sent a message to Mike that he's still our guy, but [it sent] a message
to the whole team: If you stub your toe, you're still our guy. We're going to stay with you."
Ron Washington was on the back foot in the 2010 season when he admitted to using an illegal substance. He and Josh Hamilton were under critical fire from the news media over their unethical behaviour, off the field. The club was also being auctioned during
the year.
Rangers however stayed strong. As Texas Hall of Famer, Nolan Ryan, took the Presidency, Ron Washington steered the Rangers to the World Series and Josh Hamilton ended the year with a 2010 American League Most Valuable Player award.
Washington has done it again by putting his squad in the position to retain their American League Championship crown. Daniels knows how strong and formidable the manager is and there is talk of a contract extension on the horizon. The Rangers have Washington
in service till next year and they look keen to address the situation in the off-season.
Regardless of what happens next, the top level management does not seem compelled to make any changes in the team when the off-season period arrives.
"I love the guy," Daniels said.
With a tactician in Ron Washington, the Rangers can look to go on top in the World Series if they beat their opponents in the upcoming series. Washington will be looking to weave his magic as the Rangers look to him to carry their winning momentum forward.
