Texas Rangers’ Ian Kinsler gets to sit out on Monday – MLB Update
Second baseman, Ian Kinsler got an unexpected call to sit out of the Texas Rangers game against the Oakland Athletics that took place Monday at the Overstock.com Coliseum and marked the last encounter of a four-game series.
Playing in most games this season, the infielder was sidelined with Mike Napoli by none other than manager Ron Washington.
The right-hander, who will return to Arlington with his club on Tuesday, will be back in the action against the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series. The player currently has a batting average of .279 and he has gone 12-for-43 in the last 10 games. The
player has been given rest for only the second time this season.
The strong hitter was last sidelined on April 12 when the Rangers took on the Detroit Tigers. The ball star has been playing as designated hitter, following a bad injury to Josh Hamilton. So far, the infielder has played 23 games at second base and four
as a designated hitter.
"I just think he needs a day off, period," manager Ron Washington said. "It will help him mentally and physically."
Kinsler is currently tied at 10th place for 17 runs and 16 walks in the American League.
"I'm fine," Kinsler said. "More hits would be nice, but there's nothing I can say about it. It's part of the season. I'll continue to play hard and things will change. I'm swinging at some balls. Yesterday, I had a good at-bat against [Athletics closer Brian]
Fuentes, and then I chased a ball up. I need a little more discipline. You go through ups and downs, and right now I'm a little more down than I like. Hopefully this is it for me."
The player started off the season with consecutive home runs in three games against the Boston Red Sox. Kinsler is an important figure with the team and Washington has high expectations from him. With most of the club players failing to put on a good knock
with the bat, the second baseman has to do his best to alleviate the pressure.
