Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton and the Disabled List go hand-in-hand
It seems that every time we look or Josh Hamilton, he is on the Disabled List with some sort of injury. This time he is again on the DL and it looks as if he will be there for at least six to eight weeks.
This obviously is bad news for the Rangers. Hamilton was sort of the backbone for the Texas Rangers and without him it seems they will be in trouble. The team which is currently the best in Major League Baseball lost the game to the Detroit Tigers soon after
Hamilton’s departure from the field.
The outfielder broke his upper arm during Tuesday’s game while he was trying to dive towards the home plate. "It was just a stupid play," Hamilton said. "I definitely shouldn't have done it."
"I listened to my third-base coach," Hamilton said. "That's a little too aggressive. The whole time I was watching the play I was listening. [He said] 'Nobody's at home, nobody's at home.' I was like, 'Dude, I don't want to do this. Something's going to
happen.' But I listened to my coach. And how do you avoid a tag the best? By going in headfirst and get out of the way and get in there. That's what I did."
Anderson defended his position by saying that he would have asked any other players with the speed that Hamilton possesses to do the same but he felt that Hamilton shouldn’t have dived in towards the base headfirst. His intention was to steal a run since
nobody was covering the home plate. Anderson felt that sliding in headfirst was dangerous and it has been the cause of many injuries throughout MLB games. He continued by saying that sometimes, even though the player might know it’s dangerous, their instincts
get the best of them. Many players have dived headfirst in an attempt to reach the base and that is what Hamilton did.
Manager Ron Washington said that Hamilton tried some swings after he was tagged at the plate. His arm was behind him when he was walking back from the field but the pain after he stopped his swings was too much to continue with in the game.
The injury has been termed as a non-displaced fracture of the humerus bone. The injury went undetected by an X-ray but a later an MRI showed its presence. General Manager Jon Daniels confirmed reports that sadly Hamilton will not be in a position to swing
the bat for at least one month.
Hamilton has had his fair share of injuries in the past few years. It is often joked about the current AL MVP is under some sort of curse. In the September of 2010 he fractured his ribs. June 2010 saw him suffer hamstring tightness. During May of 2010 was
met with a knee injury whereas in September 2009 he suffered from a pinched nerve in the neck. In June 2009 he tore his abdominal muscle and strained his ribs in April of 2009.
Although Hamilton is a tremendous player, he is prone to injuries which eventually hurt the Rangers during the season. The lack of his presence on the field for the team usually creates some uneasiness in the team and they begin to lose games.
