Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton comes up with apology – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton has come up with an apology after reports that he was inebriated. The report that circulated in the press this past week that made a startling revelation that Hamilton had consumed alcohol in Dallas.
As the reports made rounds, the player came up with an apology on Friday, saying he did not have drugs which can be proven from the fact that he had two tests since then. But consuming alcohol is something that he is sorry for.
Asserting that he not only hurt himself but everyone who looks at him with admiration and as inspiration, he said as he apologised for it.
"To everybody I hurt, everybody, fans, kids, people who have addictions who look up to me, I apologize," Hamilton said. "When you're doing this, you don't mean to hurt anybody. You're only hurting yourself. But as I know, I hurt a lot of people.”
Having remained the Most Valuable Player for the Texas Rangers in the American League in 2010, Josh Hamilton is arguably one of the best talents the game has recently produced. He remains an All-Star for four seasons; an achievement for the extraordinary
player.
Friday’s apology that was delivered in a press conference saw no question-answer session at the end as the player wanted to avoid taking queries. But nevertheless, this is not the first incident that has hit the player.
Back in 2009, it was important to mention, the player was supposedly drunk in Arizona. That event, quite incidentally, had occurred before the commencement of Spring Training. However, to the player’s immediate relief, the Texas Rangers decided to stand
behind him.
He was not disciplined for that act largely because he volunteered for going through counselling. That was possible because he had cleared all the drug tests that were taken in the aftermath of that particular incident.
Now that last week’s event has once again hit the player, the incident that occurred in 2009 seems to have come back to haunt him.
"I feel terrible about this, let a lot of people down. The last four days I really beat myself up. There's nobody that feels worse than I do. I'm going to do everything I can to lean on some shoulders so hopefully I can get back to the point where people
will lean on me."
There was a mixed reaction over what type of disciplinary action might be taken amongst the Texas Rangers’ fans. Some have stated that he should be punished for what he did this time because he was pardoned the last time. Some emphasised he be forgiven as
he has now made a public apology.
Whatever the case, the Rangers will be keeping a close eye on Hamilton as they are hoping for great things from their star player in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
