Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton speaks after second relapse since 2009 – MLB News
Days after Josh Hamilton found himself embroiled in a perfectly avoidable controversy whereby he consumed alcohol; the Texas Rangers’ outfielder said on Wednesday, February 15, that he is focusing on the reasons why he fell for it.
Josh Hamilton, it is pertinent to mention, has in the past suffered from drug and alcohol abuse which is something he has been trying to recover from. However, it was in Dallas a couple of weeks ago that he drank twice in a restaurant and a bar.
The event was soon news in the increasingly curious and probing media. With the incident getting tremendous media attention, Josh Hamilton appeared in front of a TV camera to admit and apologise for his actions and also denying to have taken any drugs.
On Wednesday, two weeks after the occurrence of this particularly undesirable incident, Josh Hamilton appeared in the media for the first time. Calling it a spiritual re-programming, he said that his battle against the addiction is not over and he is trying
to do the right thing.
"It's going to be a process," Hamilton said Wednesday. "I'm not fixed but I'm trying to do the right thing one day at a time. ... The battle is not over. It's going to go on for a long time. It's a spiritual re-programming."
Hamilton also shed light on what could possibly have led to the relapse. He thought he had felt everything was under control by having no drugs or alcohol and taking care of the family.
“For so long since I have been back in the game, I felt like I had my life under control,” Hamilton said. “I was focused on being a provider for my family, not doing drugs or alcohol, playing baseball and taking care of my family.”
This was the second relapse by the outfielder since 2009. It was January 2009 that Josh Hamilton faced almost a similar situation. Back then he was supported by the team on all fronts and the Major League Baseball did not take any big action. It is to be
seen now what the MLB decides. However, it’s to be mentioned that Hamilton was not found guilty of having any drugs in his system.
