Texas Rangers Manager Ron Washington comments on Scott Coolbaugh’s performance as a hitting coach
The Texas Rangers are through to the World Series and they will be facing the St. Louis Cardinals for their second attempt at the title for the second straight year. They have the power and the ability to do it and that partly is owed to hitting Coach Scott
Coolbaugh. The former Triple – A Round Rock Coach has transformed the club into a rampaging Giant and Ron Washington was more than willing to comment on the person on Sunday, October 16.
The Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers, 15 – 5 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to go through to the World Series and Coolbaugh was highlighted as one of the reasons for the burst in energy.
The club had been in tartars when Clint Hurdle went to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010, leaving the hitting coach position vacant. Thad Bosley came in but he quickly failed to make an impact as communication was strained with the players. It was Coolbaugh
who came in June as a replacement and he made the best of his opportunity.
Manager Ron Washington had a few things he wanted his players to do and the new hitting Coach made sure he delivered.
"I've had a great relationship with him," Washington said. "I told him what I expected. I told him I was not going to be looking over his shoulder, but it was up to him to get it done. He has done a great job. He believes in the fundamentals like I do and
he believes in doing what the game asks you to do. If there was a transition that he had to make, it was understanding that part of the game. He does."
First choice catcher Mike Napoli substantiates Coolbaugh’s role at the club.
"We just clicked," Napoli said. "He's just easy to talk to and more willing to listen to what the guys have to say."
With the World Series fast approaching, the club is glad to have one of the best men coaching the hitting contingent. There is no doubt that Ron Washington is a happy man because of Scott Coolbaugh’s presence at the club.
