Texas Rangers Manager Ron Washington comments on bullpen role in postseason
If the Texas Rangers have some good things to note down about their bullpen roster then there is a list to construct. With the starting pitching department falling through the cracks in the playoffs, the squad of relievers has pulled up their socks to get
the job done on the mound. Manager Ron Washington has been right on time, to make the change during the games and he commented on his strategy on Monday, October 17, from the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Koji Uehara has been one reliever who has stood out from the group and his three homers have raised the earning runs average of the whole bullpen, a lot. However even if one regards the mistakes that Uehara has presented on the mound, the Rangers’ relievers
are 4 – 0 with a 2.34 earning runs average.
The combination of Alexi Ogando, Scott Feldman, Neftali Feliz, Darren Oliver, Mike Adams and Michael Gonzalez has given up five runs, 10 walks and 22 hits in 39 innings, while producing 36 strikeouts. Their role has been pivotal for the Rangers run to the
World Series and Washington has done the right thing to bring the relievers in early in the game.
"I don't think my hook has been quick, I think it has been right on time," Washington said. "If that happens to be in the third inning, so be it. If the game is going that way, where you have to make a move to stay in the game, you have to do what you have
to do.
"I did expect the starters to go deeper in the game, but the bottom line is they went as deep as they could, kept us in the game and we were able to pull some of them out."
Ogando has featured in seven games and pitched 10.1 innings, conceding just one run off four hits. His earning runs average is just 0.87. At the same time, Feldman has featured in four games, pitching 8.2 innings and producing an earning runs average of
just 0.00.
The one thing about Ogando has been his influence. The Rangers have not lost a single game when Ogando has gone out to pitch on the mound in the 2011 postseason.
