Texas Rangers’ Mark Hamburger pleased with first career win – MLB News
The Texas Rangers kicked off their last series of the season with a close win over the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Monday, September 26.
The Texans kicked off their game in stunning fashion as they capitalised on an Alberto Callaspo fielding error to go on top. The Rangers won due to the strong pitching performance from Mark Hamburger.
Restricted to just two innings in the game, C. J. Wilson followed his skipper’s orders on ending his tenure short of a longer stay on the mound. He was deliberately replaced by Hamburger in the third. The rookie pitcher played his fifth game of the season
and impressed the fans as he hurled out 3.2 innings, conceding just one run off two hits and one walk. The player picked up his first win of the season as the Rangers restricted the Angels to a 3-4 loss.
"Somebody said: That's one, you only need 299 more to get into the Hall," Hamburger said. "But I'm just happy I pitched well and the team won. I was just happy to be pitching."
Manager Ron Washington was pleased to see the star throw with dominant precision. Wilson was in the mood to hurl a few more innings but he was happy to let the rookie take the mound. He praised the youngster and made a good note of his effort for the club.
"Yeah, I'm stoked for Mark Hamburger," Wilson said. "His first pitch was a little high ... off the top of the screen. But he came back. He hadn't pitched in a while and we're all really happy for him."
Rangers are looking to rest their key players in the line-up before the play-offs start soon. Colby Lewis is expected to throw on Tuesday but it will be interesting to see what manager Ron Washington tinkers in that encounter. In the meanwhile, Hamburger
can think of the coming season and the improvements he can make to his performance. 299 more wins to go, for the rookie hurler.
