Texas Rangers: Mark Lowe remains in Triple-A while Engel Beltre gets suspended
The Texas Rangers were in need of an experienced reliever recently and they had no intention of bringing in Mark Lowe from Triple A Round Rock. A line of choices lined up but they were not looking to the veteran for support.
On the other hand, outfielder Engel Beltre found himself in a controversial situation when he was suspended by the club following an altercation with fans in San Antonio.
Going back to Lowe, the veteran was shipped to the Minor League ten days ago. The club has not indicated to release him, as they want him to improve more with the Triple-A team.
"We haven't forgotten about Mark Lowe", Rangers manager, Ron Washington said. "But he's doing what we need him to do, get regular work. The way we're falling, he'll get his chance. But we haven't forgotten about him. We check on him every time he touches the ball".
In four appearances this month, Lowe carried a heavy earning runs average of 13.50. At the moment, he is 1–0 with Round Rock and he carries an earning runs average of 5.40.
Beltre, who plays for Double – A Frico has been suspended for an indefinite period of time till a date can be set. The player is likely to face a 10-day ban and he will be present in Arizona under extended spring training instructions.
An altercation between San Antonio fans and Beltre came off as a result of a brawl that ensued after an umpire decision was revoked on a three run homer hit by Roughriders. The decision was converted for a ground – rule double and the team lost the game 6–7 instead of winning by 8–7.
Beltre reportedly threw trash can towards the fans in the brawl that ensued. That is when the Rangers suspended him.
"We are going to continue to look at it as far as the involvement of other people", Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "It's not something we're going to condone. It's something we take seriously. It was a black eye for all involved. We do not know everything that happened, but we're looking into it".
Since the outfielder is the only one suspended, the matter will be closely observed by the Rangers.
