Texas Rangers’ Matt Harrison to fight for rotation – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ pitcher Matt Harrison vowed on Monday, February 20, that he will fight for a spot in the rotation. Harrison, who will indeed have an insurmountable challenge in the fiercely competitive rotation, maintained a wonderful ERA during the past
season to win praise from the fans and critics alike.
While he is in the possession of talent and has experience to his credit, Harrison is also cognizant of the importance of winning the World Series. The club has qualified for the World Series finals in last two consecutive years, without winning on both
occasions.
"It's the same way as last year: I'm coming in to fight for a spot in the rotation," Harrison said. "Last year was last year. I can't take anything for granted. I've got to show them I'm ready to go. This is an organization that has been to the World Series
for the last two years. They are not going to fool around with somebody who is not ready to go."
Matt Harrison played a total of 31 games the past year, having 30 starts in the season. While he was able to pitch over 185 innings, he had 126 strike-outs to his credit, winning 14 games with a 3.39 ERA; one of the best in the American League.
However, given the fact that the likes of Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando and Scott Feldman will be among the list of potential starters, Harrison has a lot to surmount. Add to it the arrival of Yu Darvish whose presence will be an added challenge for the starters.
Harrison realises that as he considers himself a hard worker capable of earning a place in the rotation.
"I'm the type of person, I don't want anything given to me," Harrison said. "I never have been. I want to earn everything I get."
The Rangers might not have the luck to win the World Series in the past two years. However, it is increasingly clear they have the potential as well as the strength to achieve a tremendous victory for the first time in franchise’s history this year.
