The Texas Rangers’ Michael Young said on Thursday, January 12, that things are a little easier for him now ever since he has adjusted to the new position. Considered to be one of the strong parts of the club, Young, a designated
hitter is now adapting to the new position which is that of infielder.
Contrary to what is usually universally acknowledged, such a broad and sweeping change in position may be accompanied with difficulties for the player, he has managed it with remarkable efficacy, thereby being very productive for
the team.
He makes it clear himself. "It's definitely a little easier," Young said. "I put that in the past a while ago. I prefer quiet offseasons -- trust me."
Having appeared in 159 games last year (2011), he remained 631 at-bats, scoring 106 RBIs and 88 runs to his credit. He remained third in the American League batting average with .338 and fifth in AL with 106 RBIs, elevating the
team to victory stand wherever he could.
Young had 11 homers to his credit. While he might not have clicked in the post-season, he nevertheless had an average of .229 in 70 at-bats with seven runs to his credit.
His career average of .304 is indicative of the talent he has in his possession. With 1667 games that he has represented the Texas Rangers so far, he has scored 1006 runs, having had 169 RBIs and 2061 hits to his credit.
Having been a renowned designated hitter for the club, his has been a consistent performer throughout the years for the team. He remains confident about repeating the same performance in the upcoming season. "There are a lot of
things," Young said. "I keep them close to the vest. I can pick a part of my game and find something I need to get better at."
With all other changes that the Texas Rangers have recently made, it will be interesting to see how Young continues to execute things the way he has mostly done for the Rangers all this while.
With one of the best offence available to the Texas Rangers, the fans will certainly hold their breath for another round of exciting games with the likes of Young in the Rangers.
