Texas Rangers Michael Young reacts after clinching Game 4 victory in American League Championship Series
Michael Young may not be on top of his game, this postseason, but he had a lot to be happy about on Wednesday, October 12. The regular designated hitter was given a cleanup role and was sent to the first base by Manager Ron Washington in the recent encounter.
The Texas Rangers superstar was influential in the field as his team beat the Detroit Tigers, 7 – 3, in the Game 4 of the American League Championship Series at the Comerica Park in Detroit.
"October baseball at its best," first baseman Michael Young said. "The more you play games like this, the more respect you gain for the other team. The Tigers have a great team. They're playing hard, and their pitching has been great. It's been a real nail-biter
but a lot of fun. But we're going to focus on tomorrow and see if we can get one more."
Young was one of the hitters to add a run to the scoring tally of the team as he drew in a RBI with a single to the centre field in the sixth inning against Detroit pitcher, Rick Porcello. His hit allowed Elvis Andrus to score the leading run in the game
that put the club 3 – 2 above the home team at that time.
Though the Tigers equalized, Young’s colleagues added four runs in the eleventh inning against Jose Valverde to put the Rangers up for a 7 – 3 win over the Tigers. The player saw Mike Napoli break the tie with an RBI single in the inning. He then saw Nelson
Cruz smash a three-run homer to the left centre field.
Young also saw Cruz act defiantly in the field as he caught Delmon Young’s fly ball and threw it accurately back to catcher, Mike Napoli, for a tag out on Miguel Cabrera at the home plate in the eighth inning.
"Tonight was a total team effort," Young said. "Everybody in the line up contributed in one way or another."
Young managed to set his batting average at .118. The unofficial captain is having a rough time adapting to the postseason but there is a lot of faith in the player.
