Texas Rangers’ Mike Maddux talks about Game 3 club pitcher, Colby Lewis
Texas Rangers pitching Coach Mike Maddux took the opportunity on Sunday, October 2 in Tampa Bay, to talk to the press. The veteran Rangers man talked about Colby Lewis, who will be facing the Tampa Bay Rays for his first post-season game in the year. The
pitcher will be heading to the mound with a 3-0 standing in the playoffs and that was something Maddux had to point out.
Lewis has a simple approach of treating every other game the same way. The star hurler was the only pitcher to snatch a win for the Rangers in the 2010 World Series against the San Francisco Giants. The star will now go into Game 3 of the American League
Division Series to maintain his no-loss record against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The last time Lewis faced the Rays, he walked off the mound with eight strike-outs and four hits allowed from eight innings. He also was one of the players who tossed a winner in the last Division Series against the Rays in 2010. The player has a post-season
earned run average of 1.71 and his recent season performance has earned him an earned run average of 4.40. He has 14 wins and 10 losses from 32 game starts, this year.
Maddux talked about the player’s 3-0 standing in the post-season, last year.
"I thought he threw all his pitches for strikes, commanded everything well, had a good game plan and had determination to go out there and do it," Mike Maddux said. "He rose to the moment, kept his cool through everything."
At the same time, Maddux points out the record against the Rays as dominant indicator for things to come.
"I think past performance has a lot to say about a guy," Maddux said. "That's your comfort zone. I think guys that have been there, done that, those are the guys that end up making for attractive acquisitions."
Whatever the case may be, Lewis will not play the numbers game on Monday. He will go out to play the way he always has. It will be interesting to see if the Rays can do something big against the Ranger’s ace.
