Texas Rangers’ Mitch Moreland optimistic to participate in Spring Training – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ first baseman Mitch Moreland stated on Tuesday, February 7, that he is close to full strength going into Spring Training. The Rangers player, who underwent surgery on his right wrist last year, is in the rehabilitation process that will
take a while before he completely recuperates.
The surgery that was performed in November was thought to be complicated; one that might result in a player staying out of the game for a while. Also, while Moreland may have plenty of time for recovery as far as the initiation of the regular season, it
is Spring Training that holds the key for determining his future course.
The recovery does not seem to be much of any concern for the Rangers’ Moreland now. On Tuesday, he also expressed that he is ‘feeling great’.
Moreland also pointed to the fact that the Rangers have told him that they will go with how the player feels when it comes to fitness.
"Going into Spring Training, I'll be in some kind of routine, but I don't think there will be many limitations," Moreland said. "They said we'll go how I feel. If I feel good, we'll keep going through it. That's going to be for me to find out. Nobody will
know until we get there but me. Right now I'm feeling good."
Moreland struck a positive note, saying he was feeling better than last year. "I know it's going to be better than last year," Moreland said. "It was pretty bad the last month.”
Mitch is deemed an inalienable part of the first-base and in him is the Rangers strength in that position. But to avert what can be construed as a setback for the team in case of Moreland’s inability to play, the Rangers have signed Conor Jackson and Brad
Hawpe to Minor League contracts.
Thus, while the Rangers positively hope that the first baseman will be perfectly able to take part in Spring Training, the team has substitutes available at their disposal should any untoward problem arises. Nonetheless, the Rangers will still want Moreland
to make an appearance, thanks to his experience and expertise.
