Texas Rangers’ Mitch Moreland takes batting practice – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ first baseman Mitch Moreland stated on Tuesday, February 21, that he is feeling good and ready to play. Moreland whose was to undergo surgery on his right wrist will have to fully recover to formally start playing.
As Spring Training gathered pace on Tuesday, Rangers’ Moreland took batting practice on Tuesday. Facing the media afterwards, the first baseman sounded confident and is looking to put in a good work-out session.
"I'm just testing it here the first few days and seeing how it goes," Moreland said. "But I have been hitting, and it's all good. I haven't had any restrictions. The trainers say if I feel good after the first few days, I'll be full go. Right now, I'm feeling
really good and ready to go."
Texas Rangers are understandably focusing on Spring Training to make maximum use of the opportunity. There are lessons to be learnt from the past two years’ experience whereby the club, reaching to the World Series finals, could not eventually win the title.
It is in this regard that Spring Training is witnessing a rigorous workout to show the predisposition to go for prolonged exertion and a physically taxing time on the field.
Mitch Moreland had a good season last year with his 134 game appearances, maintaining an average of .259 in 464 at-bats. The player who hit a total of 51 RBIs also had 16 home-runs to his credit, scoring a total of 60 runs in all the games.
However, his postseason games were not satisfactory whereby he managed an average of .103 in nine game appearances. This was partly because due to his injury on his right wrist.
Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington, in the meanwhile, was also present on Tuesday while Moreland took practice. His presence there signifies the importance attached to Spring Training.
It is also pertinent to mention here that Mike Napoli, the team’s catcher, was also in the camp to take some practice. With a sprained left ankle, Napoli also has fitness issues that he has to completely recover from prior to the commencement of Spring Training.
