Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan remains confident on a World Series win in Game 6
The Texas Rangers may have been on the unlikely end of the table when they lost Game 1 of the World Series at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, but President and CEO of the club remained confident his club would lift the trophy by the end of Game 6, nevertheless.
The St. Louis Cardinals were hosting the Rangers at their ballpark for Game 2 and in all the while Ryan’s words resonated well as the Rangers picked up a 2 – 1 victory on Thursday, October 20.
Ryan spoke from a Dallas radio station about his club and he responded coolly when he was asked if he still believed in a Game 6 World Series victory for the Rangers.
"Oh, I think so," Ryan answered. "I think our offense is such that every night, we could break out and have a big inning like we did against Detroit [in the American League Championship Series]. I think when you look at the strength throughout our line up;
I think we're very capable of that.
"And when I look at St. Louis' pitching, I don't look at their pitching like a [Justin] Verlander, where you say, 'Verlander is on, so we're going to have to hope for something good to happen.'"
The President clarified that he was not downplaying the St. Louis pitching staff. He expressed his feelings by saying that the Rangers should score some runs and at the same time give the pitchers all the variables needed to win the remaining games.
Verlander was Detroit’s premier pitcher and there was a lot of expectation from the Detroit Tigers who were considered a surprise package in the American League. The Rangers however did their job well in the American League Championship Series to win the
World Series qualification. Verlander was one of their biggest thorns as he was 24 – 5 in the season.
That however did not matter as Nelson Cruz pulled his socks to give the Rangers his best performance in any postseason series. The Rangers are expected to climb back to the top whenever they go down and Ryan will not doubt his instinct, even if the Rangers
lose their Game 3 encounter.
