Texas Rangers’ President Ryan Nolan hospitalised after a heart condition – MLB News
Texas Rangers’ President and CEO Ryan Nolan was hospitalised on Monday, July 18 in Houston after complains of chest pain on Sunday.
The legendary pitcher was due to join the Rangers on Tuesday night when they take on the Los Angeles Angels in the first game of the four-game series. Nolan was scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch and take part in the festivities to induct Gene
Autry into the Angels’ Hall of Fame. Nolan was an Angels’ player from 1972-79 and is himself a Hall of Famer at the franchise.
Ryan, who once used to dictate terms at the mound, experienced uneasiness on Sunday morning at his home in Georgetown. He was hurried to Houston where doctors admitted him as a precautionary measure. He has already been once treated for a heart condition
back in year 2000 and it is believed to be a reoccurrence of the same ailment.
Nolan’s problem is not new in his family. His grandfather and a brother both had heart attacks during their 50s. Ryan too had a double-bypass operation in April 2000 after doctors found a sizeable blockage in the left coronary artery. Although the doctors
declined that it was a heart attack, they discovered another, undisclosed condition.
The doctors admitted him on Monday to carry out some initial scanning tests and did not cite the need for any further bypass. They, however, said that the heart condition will be treated with medication that Nolan is already taking.
An array of tests related to the heart were carried out on Monday and Nolan was fortunate that they came out negative. No new problem is found in test reports and oral medical treatment will continue while keeping Nolan in the hospital for a few days to
monitor his situation.
A statement from the Rangers said that their President is resting comfortably in the hospital and is expected to be released in a few days after doctors are satisfied of his progress. He continues to improve his health condition and declined further comment.
He is most likely to remain on rest, away from team activities at least for a week.
Ryan’s stature as a pitcher cannot be challenged and he now has replicated his determination into management. He took over the affairs of Rangers in 2008 and Texas have since shown a drastic improvement. The Rangers booked their tickets to the World Series
last fall for the first time since inception and it came under Ryan’s ownership.
Nolan is without doubt the best pitcher ever in baseball history. He holds the records for pitching the most no-hitters (seven) and has the most strike-outs for all-time at 5714. He is a true legend and his speedy recovery is vital for baseball and Rangers
alike.
