Texas Rangers: Regular season results – MLB August 2011
After getting to an impressive 61-48 win-loss record at the end of July, the Texas Rangers were hoping to produce a similar performances to improve their position on the Wild Card standings. However, that did not turn out to be the case as they were thrashed
in their first series in August against Detroit Tigers.
It will not be wrong to say that Detroit were the only team, the Rangers struggled against throughout the regular season. In game one on August 2, the Rangers were defeated in a thrilling 6-5 encounter. In game 2, they again fell short by one run just because
they could not handle the pressure well enough. Crossing that final hurdle against the Tigers seemed to be a big worry for Ron Washington and his men.
Fighting back and showing amazing determination in game three of the series, the Rangers salvaged some of their lost pride with a 5-2 victory. Alexi Ogando, once again, showed his heroics as he pitched well into the seventh inning to let his team establish
complete control over the contest.
"That was a very well-pitched game just when we needed it," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "That's a pretty good lineup that he held down again."
Rangers had a decent series against the Cleveland Indians. With the series tied at 1-all, Ron Washington’s side displayed some high quality baseball to clinch the series 2-1. Elvis Andrus was brilliant with the bat as he drove in a two-run single in a five-run
eighth inning to help his side rally for a 5-3 victory.
Texas Ranger played some incredible baseball in their next three match series against Seattle Mariners. Clinching the opening two games, they improved their win-loss record to 66-51. Although the Rangers were defeated in the last game of the series 3-4,
they looked very composed as a unit.
Making the most of their chances in a three match series against Oakland Athletics, the Rangers came out victorious in each encounter. Conceding only seven runs in the series, the pitching department did a marvellous job for the team. It seemed as if Ron
Washington’s reigning AL Champions were on a roll to find ways to win even the toughest of games. They played their best when it was needed the most.
Having gained the winning momentum already, the Rangers demolished the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 in their next series to become the hottest baseball team. In game three, Ian Kinsler hit a tie-breaking two run single with two outs in eight innings to help his
side clinch a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Although the Rangers were unable to deliver the goods against Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox, the month of August turned out to be quite a good one for them.
