Texas Rangers: Regular season results – MLB May 2011
After doing a wonderful job during the month of April, the Rangers were hoping to achieve similar results in the following month as well. However, they were hammered in the second game of a three match series against Oakland Athletics 7-2 on May 1.
With the series tied at 1-all, the Rangers put up a great show in the final game of the series against the Athletics. However, again they fell short of their targets to lose the series 1-2. Rangers’ poor from continued in their next series against Seattle
Mariners as well. Losing game one 4-3, they failed to handle their nerves after they were in a winning position.
Although Ron Washington’s side made a decent come back in game two, they were unable to deliver the goods in game three to suffer their second series loss of the month. It was a disappointing result for the Rangers considering the kind of start they had
to the regular season. Making unforced errors at crucial situations, they really did not help themselves.
Texas Rangers had a forgettable start to a three match series against the New York Yankees as well. Losing the opening clash 4-1, the Rangers looked short of answers against a very balance opposition side. Bouncing back to level the series, the Rangers looked
in more control of their play in game two.
"Our record isn't what we want right now but I'm proud of the way our team's battling," Washington said after Texas won for only the second time in seven games.
The Rangers did well to level the series against Oakland Athletics after they were completely outplayed in the first game. Searching for their first series win in May 2011, the Rangers gave impressive results in series against Los Angeles Angels. In the
decider, they earned a hard fought 5-4 victory to improve their win-loss record to 21-19. Chris Dave was excellent with the bat as he drove home the tie-breaking run with an eighth inning single.
"He understood the situation," manager Ron Washington said. "I think [Saturday] he felt pretty good up there and he was trying to do more than the situation dictated. Today, he was just trying to take care of business because of what the situation dictated."
Against Philadelphia Phillies, the Rangers made critical mistakes to lose the series 1-2. Overall, the month of May proved to be decent one for the Rangers as they finished with an impressive 29-26 win-loss record. However, Ron Washington promised the fans
to give even better results in future fixtures. The Rangers were beginning to show signs of various fielding issues, as they had a few critical unforced errors.
